The Making

Sketches, contact sheets and long studio days — the thinking behind the frames.

Overview

Clients see finished galleries; they rarely see the weeks of false starts underneath. The Making turns the camera on the studio itself — planning walls, test strips, marked-up proofs — across a full season of commissions.

The result is part diary, part masterclass: an honest record of how ideas survive contact with reality, and proof that craft is mostly patient revision.

Approach

A small camera lived on the studio desk for four months, picked up whenever something worth keeping happened. No staging, no re-takes — if the moment passed, it passed. The edit favours texture: pencil dust, tape marks, tired hands.

  • 4 months of embedded studio shooting
  • 36-frame documentary edit
  • Published as a print journal and online essay
